Dental bridge dentistry
Bridges are permanent tooth-colored all-ceramic alternative for replacing lost teeth. Bridgework looks and functions almost like the real thing. All-ceramic bridges can hardly be distinguished from natural teeth, are highly aesthetic, and retain a natural appearance under all light conditions.
Fixed Dental bridges
A fixed dental bridge replaces one or more missing natural teeth. It cannot be removed by the patient. It is cemented into place and is firmly attached to the prepared natural teeth that are next to it, or to the implants in case of no natural teeth available. The fixed bridge can be made of porcelain fused to precious metal or all porcelain without any metal. We use non-metallic alternatives like all-ceramic or zirkonuim, and the aesthetics is much better. Porcelain can be more abrasive to opposing teeth, but looks more natural. Full Zirkonium is less abrasive, but it is not necessarily as aesthetic.
A bridge may be an option to replace a missing tooth or several teeth. It uses one or more teeth on either side of the bridge as an anchor. The existing teeth are prepared to have crowns placed over them with one or more false teeth fused between the two anchoring crowns. The whole bridge piece is then cemented into place. An essential part of restorative dentistry is the use of bridges to fill gaps. We have many years of experience in designing and placing bridges that fit exactly.
Why a Bridge?
A typical bridge consists of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached to two surrounding abutments (crowns). Once complete, this bridge structure is bonded into the mouth. Gaps can cause chewing problems. If even one tooth is missing, other teeth may slowly shift out of place. Opposing teeth may over erupt into a gap. This changes the way your teeth fit together. A poor bite can result in much bigger problems. Your teeth may become harder to clean, leading to tooth decay and gum disease. And shifting teeth may change your smile.
